Ten children in rich Renaissance costumes representing the priors of the five parishes in Ivrea: San Grato, San Maurizio, Sant’Ulderico, San Lorenzo and San Salvatore.

In 1700 the Abbà was the head of the Badia, an association of young people that organized parties, and whose emblem was a loaf of bread stuck on a pick, today replaced by a sword with an orange on the tip of the blade, to symbolise the beheaded tyrant.

On the last Thursday before Lent, it is their job to set fire to the Scarlo standing in the square of their parish.

The Abbà are presented to the city by the General on the two Sundays preceding Carnival during the ceremony of the Alzata.
